BLOG #3 - "A Minute" With Mrs Makeup! (Pro Makeup Kit Essentials)

My name is Amanda Palermo (@mrsmakeupartistry) and I am a Certified Makeup Artist & Skin Care Technician offering Mobile and In-Studio Makeup Services and Facial Skin Care Treatments, mainly in the Halton Hills region.

The end of 2012 marked the year where I developed a deep desire to pursue and seriously consider being a makeup artist and in January of 2013, I enrolled myself in the Advanced Makeup Artistry Course at Body Pro Beauty and Aesthetics Academy in Brampton, Ontario.

In July of 2013, Mrs. Makeup Artistry was born! With my extensive knowledge and experience in Graphic Design and Marketing, I painted a face (no pun intended) for Mrs. Makeup Artistry. It was my goal to build a solid brand identity for Mrs. Makeup Artistry. It was tough but I did it. Now, 7 years later, I’ve gone from that artist who volunteered her time doing backstage and creative photo shoots and receiving small word of mouth referrals to establishing a rock-solid reputation. I have managed to aggressively network and build a wide range of relationships with other local vendors. Most importantly, I have been able to meet and work with an amazing array of clients and vendors alike. My success and experience is a result of their gracious support!

In 2017, I also had the opportunity of working as a Makeup Artist for Lise Watier Cosmetics, a Canadian based makeup and skincare brand.

In January of 2019, I began my Spa Skin Care Technician course at Body Pro Beauty & Aesthetics Academy and have graduated and obtained my certification as a Skin Care Therapist. A beautiful makeup look goes much deeper than the technician skills and natural talent needed to create a flawless look. Skin care was something that I developed a deep interest in to learn more about, so that I could offer my clients a "full-package" or, as I like to call it, a "full-face" experience. Beauty goes skin deep, which is why I am now proud to be offering skin care services for both women and men!

I firmly stand by my motto of enhancing natural beauty not altering. Whatever the occasion is, I believe in giving you a look that is not only suitable to your personality but also an overall look that you feel 100% comfortable. Building relationships is what it’s all about, which is why I don’t like treating my clients like an "average client" but rather like a friendship. After all, you are giving me the opportunity to bring out your inner beauty, with the tender magic of a brush. Rest assured that I will work diligently with you to capture your beautiful essence.

When I am not working my side hustle, I enjoy spending time with family and hanging out with my Pug Sophie. I also love to dance and have danced for a good portion of my life. I specifically enjoy latin dancing, especially Zumba! I am also a licensed firearm owner and enjoy target/sport shooting! I am also a big nerd! I enjoy watching Sailor Moon, playing the sims or reading a good book! My favourite thing to do is to travel back to Italy to visit my Nonna and friends.

My Makeup Kit:
I always strive to use 100% Cruelty Free cosmetic products on your beautiful faces.
Some of the brands that I have in my professional makeup kit are:

Tarte Cosmetics
Deciem/The Ordinary
Pur Cosmetics
Stila Comsetics
Anastasia Beverly Hills
Nude by Nature
Burts Bee's
My favourite product in my kit would have to be Tarte Cosmetics 4-in-1 Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara.

The most expensive item in my kit would have to be Tarte Cosmetics Play Play Face Shaping Palette valued at $60 CAD.

If there is one essential item that I can go without in my kit (although tough, because I LOVE everything), it would have to be my highlighters. Although I love a little bit of strobing, I find this is the one item that I usually skip out on in applications, whether on myself or clients. Especially brides. Unless requested, applying shimmer as a highlighter or any heavy strobing is usually a no-no for bridal makeup. Brides don’t need to look sweaty in photos, especially during summer weddings.

Here’s a secret of mine – I’m not a big fan of makeup influencers. Although they can act as big trend setters within the beauty industry in terms of creating trending looks, I usually don’t like to follow what is always on-trend in the mainstream industry. What I DO like to do, is invest my time researching new techniques or products that I feel I can effectively use to create my signature looks. I like to be unique!

I would like to send a BIG thank you to Luv Lashes for sending me one of their Natural 3D Mink Eyelashes (which I LOVE by the way!) and for allowing me to share my story.
Love,
Amanda Palermo ♡
